Gadgets for superheroes

Another year, another mission. For you superhero teachers to impart knowledge, to make school fun and to keep weekends, as weekends!

It can be done. The Earwig elves have been beavering away developing the very latest wrist-zappers and eye-lasers for Autumn 2017 to make life easier, better, faster so you can get on with being superheroes..

Here are the latest gizmos from the lab …

Blog and Parent Diary Module

Pupil timelines provide parents with a brilliant view of activity specific to their child but sometimes you want to let everyone know what’s going on around the school. The Blog Module enables you to take advantage of the great cornucopia of images and video that you generate every week in Earwig to communicate the wider story to parents and other parties, without the bother of monthly newsletters. The Diary enables you to flag up forthcoming events or dates that parents need to know about.

Great for: Parental Engagement, raising the school profile, minimising admin.

Portfolio Module

The much trumpeted Portfolio Module is now fully operational. This enables pupils to add their own Earwig records. Teachers can create ‘projects’ for their pupils to report against and teacher and pupil input is tracked throughout with a dedicated chatroom for each project.

Great for: KS2 and above, improving motivation, tracking activity, recording effectiveness of staff intervention.

Assessment Module
If you already use Earwig to capture achievement, you should think seriously about trialling Earwig Assessment. It will make life so much easier, whichever curriculum and assessment schemes you are using. You won’t have to change anything except the ease with which assessments are made, tracked analysed and reported – and you all only need to learn one software package, from Early Years to KS4, and even SEN.

Great for: Anyone who has to make pupil assessments or do reports.

And for those using Earwig Assessment, or are considering it …

EYFS Assessment Module

An all new and shiny version of our first EYFS module. And widely agreed to be easier, clearer, faster, better than 2Simple or Tapestry. Your evidence, assessment and reporting all wrapped up.

Great for: Keeping big files off your devices and network, improved image safeguarding, vivid learning journeys, giving you back your weekends!

Next Steps
A super new widget that lets you plot the next steps within the curriculum and enables the system to use these to automatically create a lesson planner.

Great for: Time saving, clarity of curriculum covered, being super-organised.

Baseline Tracking

You can assess pupils at the beginning of the year and save these grades as a baseline against which to automatically measure future performance. Essential for Early Years, but a very useful tool for any framework.
Great for: More accurate performance assessment, proving your teaching effectivity, DfE reporting.

Teachers Expectations
A great new feature that sets Teachers Expectations for each pupil. Measure achievement, not just against the curriculum, but against your professional expectations which, can vary widely from pupil to pupil.

Great for: Showing a more realistic picture of pupil progress, parents evenings, meaningful reports.

On top of all the new gadgets, there are a bunch of new analysis tools and reporting options, including creating your own reports and adding these automatically to pupil timelines.

Here’s to a supersonic year.
